Next Tuesday: Gay Pride Resolution

It's my understanding that next Tuesday the Yolo County Board of Supervisors will consider a Gay Pride Month resolution.

I will be voting against this resolution.  This is not something I am considering nor something I'm mulling over.  I am voting against it.

It is my guess that I will be called all kinds of names, be told how evil I am, and all kinds of other things. That is fine with me.

At this point I am just going to vote against the measure to make my point.  It will pass with a majority of Yamada, Thomson, and McGowan.  I will vote against it. Chamberlain will likely vote against it as well.  That is the way it works.

It is my hope that we spend an extremely small amount of time on this issue on Tuesday and spend the vast majority of our time on Tuesday doing work that will actually make a difference in the lives of the people of Yolo County.

Just out of curiousity, what exactly is your "point?"

I don't understand why gay people are so into the "pride" thing. Just live your life, nobody cares if someone's gay anymore. Their efforts to get noticed and make a point about how much "pride" they have seems to smack of the exact opposite of pride. I mean, needing a parade and a governmental declaration affirming one's lifestyle doesn't exactly scream self confidence.

You're missing the point YoloVoter.

When you are a second class citizen who is denied rights, it's hard to maintain the same kind of pride that you or I feel.

If you are gay, when it comes to "pride," you're in the negative. That's a direct result of the society we live in.

I, as a heterosexual (ambiguously Mexican) male, walk around proud as hell to be an American. But if I was a gay man who looked more "ethnic," I would be treated as such.

The pride marches are less about flaunting sexuality and more about at least feeling equal to everyone else.

First off, Yolovoter I think you and I actually agree here. Second, Josh, I am a disabled white male, as an advovate of disability rights, do I ask for a disabled pride day? I to have been denied my civil rights a time or too, most recently by a county I thought was beyond this. I don't think it is a cause for celebration based on who you are or what you are.

Maybe we need a Black Pride Day or better yet, a White Pride Day! Because I am sure there has been opression from each of these races over the last 200 something years in our country. Next to the black man, the white Irish male was the most hated and unwelcome of all the immigrants of the 19th and early 20th century east coast cities, mostly New York City; where store front signs read White Irish not welcome or help wanted (not Irish). So, opression runs in many colors. Whether your a gay man, hispanic, white, black and so on.

Not need for such a day in my book.

Duane, you are consistently unable to comprehend simple passages, which I'll attribute in part to your disability.

And in fact, there are disability days throughout the nation that attempt to do the same thing as gay pride days: Spread awareness.

Gay pride day is not a day for people to say "Hey, I'm a man AND I'm wearing taupe!" just as disability day Is not a day for people to say, "Hey, Look at me - NO ARMS!!!"

Everyone's just shooting for equality.

At this point in time, black people can be married, so can whites and hispanics. Gay people cannot. I am so glad I'm not gay but I will fight for those who are because it's just not American to deny them rights.

Josh, you crack me up on how you attack someone's disability...how low can one man go....pretty low in your case. I'll pray for you Josh, as GOD can only help you now.
I thought you were leaving Woodland for your beloved liberal spin paper on the river?
Let me know if you need help getting out of town, I am sure I can provide you with packing crew.

Matt: Thank You for standing up for what you believe in!

I too find myself in agreement with YoloVoter this time. I wish the Sups would not waste their time on PC nonsense (it is nothing but nonsense).

Thanks for the common sense Matt…. And you are likely right …it will likely be a 3-2 vote. Charlie-san

Hey Josh, you were the kid growing up that picked on all the kids from Greengate huh? You fit the profile. We have a few of them at Pioneer, just like you Josh. Geeks and tweeks.
Thank You Mr. Rexroad!

It's unabashed vote pandering....for crying out load.

Most, not all, politicians are pandering for some special interest vote. If a disabled Mexican-Irish gay baby whales could vote, you'd see the politicos with their fins and snorkles in the Port of Sacramento...pandering ad nauseum.
