Electoral College is what matters

Some of you need to break out your US Government text books and take a look at how we elect our President.  Popular vote matters very little.

The person that will serve as our next President will be the ticket that gets 270 or more electoral votes.  John McCain can lose the state of new York by one vote or 1 million.  It does not matter.  Same result.  Obama can win Illinois by a huge margin -- it doesn't matter.  One vote is all that matters.

The Presidency will be decided by a small number of states. Generally they are -- Ohio, Florida, Virginia, Michigan, Colorado, Virginia, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, and New Hampshire.

What do these states have in common?  They have a large number of hunters, several have large faith constituencies, and they all have rural areas with a large number of voters.  These people will love the VP nominee.

The one of these states that McCain has the most trouble in is Michigan. Other than that I think he wins all of the others.

It does not matter what is happening in California.  What we see. The people of these states are receiving an avalanche of messaging that Californians have never seen.

Let me give you an example.  In 2000 when Governor Bush was going after the Republican nomination for President California was given 65,000 yard signs to spread out all over the state.  South Carolina started with 200,000 yard signs and more came later.

Matt, I think your right on Michigan being close...but I also worry about Colorado (mountain Hollywood types), Nevada (Las Vegas has most of the state’s voters and is Union) & New Mexico (been controlled by a Democrat machine for a while now). His VP might work out...She is very pro 2nd Amendment and I love that part of her position...and she is an avid Big Game Hunter..(now how rare is that?) Also she, although only a few years in office, has shown tenacity in cleaning up Alaskan Politics. I also think the Hispanic vote will be key in many states...and I think that group will side toward McCain. It could end up an electoral landslide for McCain

I am really starting to feel upbeat about not only a McCain win..but also Republican gains across the board...GREAT! Charlie-san
