I think McCain is going to win

I do love the VP choice for McCain.
The part i don't get is these people that think she is not qualified. If she isn't qualified then certainly Governor Bill Clinton, Governor George Bush, Governor Jimmy Carter, and Governor Michael Dukakis were not qualified either. The Governor of Alaska has a great deal of authority. Certainly more so than the Governor of Texas yet we heard very few comments about Bush not being qualified to be President in 2008.
Let me also add that she has had more executive experience than Biden and Obama combined. Some may say it is good to have Biden close by -- but he has never run anything. He has been part of a legislative body for the past 36 years. Obama has never really run anything. Five years ago he represented fewer people than Lois Wolk.
The key thing here is that over the past two months I have worried about Obama walking into this thing. Now I actually think McCain is going to win. We met the next Vice President of the United States today. |

Matt, I have thought McCain will win for some time now...however I am a bit worried over the VP pick...not the experience issue (she has more than Obama) but rather all the corruption in Alaskan Politics...i.e..Stevens and political favors, Don Young and natural resources lobbies , Bridges to No-Where, Oil & Big money. I just hope it does not give the Demos some fodder to turn things back to them. Charlie-san

For example, you mean, the Stevens "bridge to no where?" Today she clearly stated she had opposed it, and wanted to cut down on "pork barrel" spending. Guess what - 2007 she said she supported the bridge, and wanted Alaska infrastructure projects out there competing for funding when the Alaska delegation (congressmen and Senators) were in a position to get funding for them. Translation: get the pork while the Alaska delegation has the seniority to grab it. She hasn't even been officially nominated and already she's flip-flopped, rather spectacularly, too. Now, I have no problem with earmark funding for good, vetted projects- Yolo County got its share in the past, and we called it what it was- I have a problem with outright deceit. This is the best VP candidate the GOP can come up with? And what does this say about McCain's judgement? A commentator on Fox News actually stated that because she was from Alaska, she was an expert on foreign policy because Alaska is close to Russia. What????? That's like saying someone who lives in Livermore is an expert in high energy particle physics because the Lawrence-Livermore lab is there. I sense a major spin cycle coming from the right to try to justify what is beginning to look like a gimmick to attrack women voters. I've already heard women say they are offended by the assumption that they are so dim as to not see through this. Does the GOP really believe that any woman will do as long as she's a conservative and genetically female?

Matt you may have heard few comments about Bush's (lack of) experience as governor of Texas, but it was all over sites such as Move On.org. And it was in 2000. Many left wing folks pointed out that in Texas the legislature carries out most of the executive functions, and that he had managed to fail in the oil business in Texas, for pete's sake. Bush really did lack experience, was not particularly successful in any of his business ventures, but was elected anyway. I always thought of him as an RNC construct, a fabricated persona with a recognizable name and some highly effective advisors, namely Rove. The results have been worse than anyone could have imagined. This next time we really need to seek out competence. McCain may have had it once, but I don't think he does still. He isn't a "maverick" any more. I think he's grown tired, this is his last chance, and he's willing to compromise himself to please what he considers his base, when in fact if he stayed true he might have a chance. It's sad to see a great warrior turn into a shadow character for the RNC. I respect his service, but not the policies he proposes for our futures. He's just recycling Bush, and we don't need any more of that tripe.

I don't think those are accurate analogies at all. Less than two years as governor of Alaska? Her previous experience is as a Mayor of a town of 5,500.
A friend joked the other day that it was like Lois Wolk was the Vice Presidential candidate. Sadly, I pointed out Lois Wolk has considerably more experience than Palin does.
